Norman Park officials are working to transform their downtown.
They say thanks to the help of a newly formed Downtown Authority, they’ve recently added a health clinic, new signage, new street lights, and spent $30,000 re-doing all the sidewalks.
Norman Park Mayor Bruce Norton says, “you need things happening in a community or it will die on you. We need more people in here shopping. The streets are full right now, you can’t hardly find a place to park your vehicle.”
The next big thing on the list is re-doing an old building located downtown, and making it into the new city hall.
The Norman Park Police Department is aiming to keep residents safe and save them money.
Recently the department received a grant in the amount of $10,000 from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. This grant was one of 24 Small Agency Incentive Grants awarded to Georgia police departments.
The department will use the money to purchase one portable radio, one speed detection device, one set of blue lights, and two in car cameras.
